Traces in Ink is a series of handcrafted ceramic coasters inspired by the expressive movement of Chinese calligraphy.
Rather than focusing on legibility, the works capture the gesture of writing—ink drifting, breaking, and dissolving across the surface. Cut-out forms echo the rhythm of brushstrokes and the philosophy of liubai (intentional emptiness), allowing light and shadow to become part of the composition.
Each piece is individually glazed, resulting in subtle variations in tone and texture. No two coasters are exactly alike—each preserves a moment where material, movement, and chance meet.
Designed for everyday use yet rooted in cultural memory, Traces in Ink turns the simple act of setting down a cup into a quiet encounter with contemporary Chinese aesthetics.
